Yesterday a colleague from my department got up to get herself a refill of a hot beverage treat and invited me along. Curious, I went with her to the "pantry" to check out the beverage machine there.
In the pantry we saw Tea Lady 1 and Tea Lady 2. Tea Lady 2, the one who does not service my part of the office, speaks English!
!!!
Yes! She asked me if I wanted coffee, and how many packets of sugar I wanted. "One, two, three?" she asked jovially. Tea Lady 2 is really nice! "Just one is fine," I replied. "Thanks!"
The latte she made for me was great.
I made sure to enjoy it in front of Tea Lady 1, the one who feuded with me earlier (see "Guilty until proven innocent?").
This morning, without being told, Tea Lady 1 brought me a latte. With one packet of sugar. And just now, when I came back from lunch, she brought me a cup of jasmine tea. My favorite. Without being asked.
Victory is mine!
Epilogue:
Recently I have been trying to figure out how to get a visa to go to China. I want to catch some of the Beijing Olympics with Aria and Yeagerbombs because our blockmate and friend and heroine EMILY CROSS is competing in fencing! Obviously I don't have any idea how this stuff works. I assumed I could walk into the China consulate and figure it out. Then I thought, maybe my office could help me because the HR people apply for visas on behalf of the staff all the time.
I asked our department administrator if I could get a China visa through our firm.
"Sure," she said. "Just fill out this form."
"So...do I have to go drop this off at the consulate?"
"No," she replied. "Our Tea Lady will bring it over and take care of everything."
Victory is mine!
