I don't know which one is worse, lack of AC in a tropical city climate, or lack of windows in a stuffy hot indoor climate.
Lack of AC sucks because the heat and humidity build up and mold starts to grow in places it normally wouldn't.
I don't want to gross you out so I will spare you the details, dear reader. I will just tell you that I was horrified when I came back from my 8-day trip in Taiwan.
Lack of a window sucks because you can't tell what time it is, and it's hard to wake up in the morning, and the air quality is bad because there is no way to get fresh air.
I thought I had no other options and would just have to stiff-upper-lip it out until late fall, when it would supposedly cool down.
But, as I was all alone beweeping my outcast state, fortune fell into my lap. Finally! A guardian angel 3 degrees removed from me is allowing me to live in an extra flat of his. Thank you EYHC!
I think this is an appropriate time to quote Shakespeare.
Sonnet XXIX
When, in disgrace with fortune and men's eyes,I all alone beweep my outcast state
And trouble deaf heaven with my bootless cries
And look upon myself and curse my fate,
Wishing me like to one more rich in hope,
Featured like him, like him with friends possess'd,
Desiring this man's art and that man's scope,
With what I most enjoy contented least;
Yet in these thoughts myself almost despising,
Haply I think on thee, and then my state,
Like to the lark at break of day arising
From sullen earth, sings hymns at heaven's gate;
For thy sweet love remember'd such wealth brings
That then I scorn to change my state with kings.
So, I am moving, again. I expect and hope that this is the last time I will move in Hong Kong.
I just got the keys to my new place.
I am sharing a multi-room flat with an acupuncture office. The acupuncture lady is Kitty. She put two needles in my arm because I said casually I had never tried acupuncture before, not expecting her to whip out needles on the spot.
It felt okay.
Now I live still close to work, but in a corner room with windows. Windows!! I will never take you for granted again, window!
And not one, not two, but THREE air conditioining units.
Three AC units!!
One with a remote control!
I will never take you for granted again, AC!
In fact, I will never take a roof over my head for granted again.
